Indo-US Joint Clean Energy Research and Development Center (JCERDC)

Indo-US Joint Clean Energy Research and Development Center (JCERDC)

Indo-US Joint Clean Energy Research and Development Center (JCERDC) is proposed to be established under a joint initiative between the Government of India and the US Department of Energy. The center is envisaged to undertake collaborative R & D to advance clean energy technologies. Letters of Intent are invited from Indian academia, research institutions along with industry partners for undertaking R&D collaboration under the Indo-US JCERDC.

The center will involve the active participation of academic and private sectors of both the countries working in a consortia mode. The initial priority areas to be covered under the Indo-US JCERDC are:
Solar Energy
Second Generation Biofuels
Energy Efficiency of Buildings

OBJECTIVES

The overall aim of the JCERDC is to facilitate joint research and development on clean energy by teams of scientists, technologists and engineers from India and the United States, and related joint activities, needed to deploy clean energy technologies rapidly with the greatest impact. To achieve this objective, the Indo-US JCERDC will support multi-institutional network project costs using public-private partnership model of funding support.

ELIGIBLE GROUPS

Awards will be made to a consortia with the knowledge and experience to undertake first-rate collaborative research programs. These consortia will leverage existing resources and physical infrastructure and will not require new “bricks and mortar” facilities. These consortia will help bring together top talent from both countries and are expected to generate key technological advancement through genuine collaboration between U.S. and Indian researchers.

The application should be jointly submitted by the U.S.-Indian researchers who would be members of the Consortia based on their mutual interests, priorities and strength.

These consortia may consist of entities or individuals from academia, national laboratories non-governmental R & D institutions along with atleast one partner from the private sector.

There should be a US and an Indian Institute identified as the lead Institute on each side to be responsible for coordination of the activities for the respective countries.

The program will be coordinated by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India and administered through the binational Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF).
