With a view to creating opportunities for the Defence children to pursue vocational training in job oriented professional courses, the Western Naval Command has set up the Naval Institute of Technology (NIT) in 1996 at Mumbai. It is located in 4th Pasta Lane ,Colaba,Mumbai-400005. Being well connected by bus/train services it can easily be reached from the main local train terminals, viz. CST and Churchgate by numerous bus routes. 

The institute is recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and affiliated to the Maharashta State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE).It is also affiliated to Mumbai University for its BSc. degree course in hospitality studies since August 2007. The Institute is well equipped and has fully furnished laboratories and classrooms. The library has a collection of various books and magazines on relevant subjects and general reading. Experienced and qualified faculty have been recruited for the institute. Many eminent persons from the industry and management field are on the list of visiting faculty.
