Eligibility:
B.E. /B. Tech. in Metallurgical/Mechanical/Industrial/ Production/ Chemical Engineering or AMIE Certificate in any of the above branches of Engineering.
Admission under Stipendiary Seats: Candidates fulfilling eligibility as specified will be considered for admission to the respective programs under stipendiary seats. The candidates applying for admission under sponsored category shall not be considered for admission under stipendiary seats quota.
Admission Procedure: Admissions will be effected for all the programs, Except for VLSI design / Computer Science Engineering, according to merit list prepared on the basis of valid GATE score in the respective branches indicated under the column of Eligibility criterion in Table 1. For VLSI Design / Computer Science Engineering the merit list shall have weight age of 70% for GATE score and 30% weight age for written test/ Interview.
The seats remaining vacant if any after the completion of admissions of GATE qualified candidates (candidates with valid GATE Score), will be offered to Non-GATE Candidates (candidates without valid GATE Score), as per their merit based on the written test and interview.
Written Test / Interview: All the non-GATE candidates applying for M Tech programs will be required to appear for written test and interview.
Please note that the non-GATE candidates shall be offered admission on the vacant seats remaining if any, after admitting all GATE qualified candidates. Only those non-GATE candidates who qualify in the written test shall be interviewed. The list of such candidates shall be displayed by the respective departments.
Admission of Candidates under Sponsored Category: (1) Candidates fulfilling the eligibility criteria as specified in Table-I will be considered for admission to respective courses under sponsored category. (2) Under sponsored category the candidates having valid GATE Score shall be given preference over non-GATE candidates for admission (based on their merit), the percentile GATE score forming the basis of the merit list. (3) The candidates must have minimum 2 years of full time work experience in relevant field in which admission is being sought, after attaining the qualifying degree/certificate, in a registered firm/company/industry/ educational and/or research institute/any Government Department or Government Autonomous organization. (4) A letter from the employer must be furnished stating that the candidate is being sponsored to seek admission to the MTech program. The employer should also indicate that the candidate will not be withdrawn midway till the completion of the course and the candidate will be fully under the administrative control of the Institute for the period of the course, and will be paid full salary by his/her employer for the duration of the course.

Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur, also referred to as NIT, Nagpur, (formerly known as Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering (VRCE), Nagpur) is one of the first six Regional Engineering Colleges established under the scheme sponsored by the government of India and the Maharashtra State Government. The NIT Act passed by the parliament in 2007 declares it as an "Institute of National Importance" for India. The college was established in June 1960 and named after the engineer, planner and statesman of the country Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya.
