Digital convergence refers to the convergence of many industries into one conglomerate (Information Technologies, Telecommunication, Consumer Electronics, Biomedical systems and Entertainment) . Digital convergence will substantially impact people’s lifestyle and work style. VLSI and communication advances permit complex functions to be embedded ubiquitously giving intelligence and enhanced functionality to many products and services. This provides new, innovative solutions to consumers and business users. Based on digital technologies and digitized content it encompasses converged devices (such as smartphones, laptops, internet enabled entertainment devices and set top boxes), converged applications (e.g. music download on PC, voice, texts, video, pictures, broadcasts, presentation, streaming media, global connectivity and personalized services) and converged networks (IP networks).
