University of Brunei Darussalam is Brunei's oldest university. It is the largest university in the country in terms of student enrollment and curriculum offered. Universiti Brunei Darussalam was established in 1985, only a year after the country regained full independence, with an intake of 176 students. In 1988, the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education was merged into the university.
